Look at your life. What are the positive and negatives within it? What is something that is going well for you in your life and something that you want to keep up? Such as staying organized, talking to your family more, etc. We are going over 8 ways you can have a more balanced and healthy lifestyle.

1. Set goals.
You all probably have heard of SMART goals one time or another in school. And yeah, I am also tired of hearing about it. But the annoying thing is, it works. For those of you who don’t know what SMART goals stands for it is:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Attainable
- Relevant / Realistic
- Time based
These types of goals really do work in getting things done, bettering yourself and your life. Whether these goals have to do with school, social media, friends, fitness, really just anything, making goals and having something to accomplish will keep you extremely motivated.
2. Think about your mental health.
Physical health is important but mental health is also so important, so make sure you don’t forget about it. It might be hard, but give yourself time every day, and a break from stressful situations or from doing too much. Your brain needs to rest as much as your body does.
3. Plan. Plan. Plan.
One way to not get overly stressed out is by planning and organizing your schedule. Whether this is a short outline of things you need to do on scratch paper, or if it’s an hour by hour plan, understand what works best for you and have some type of plan each day. By doing this, it allows you to get ahead of your responsibilities and prepare for what you have to do. Also make sure to pencil in some free time so you have time to relax and not have to worry about anything. Often times, if we don’t have free time scheduled in, we forget to take a moment and immediately go into the next task. This can really help you in balancing the many things going on in your life. Life has a lot of moving parts, so it’s best to keep track of it by planning to make that easier.

4. Eat healthy.
Eating healthy gives you the energy you need for the day. If you eat like crap, you’re most likely going to feel like crap. So making sure you’re eating healthy meals is important to boosting your life. This is not saying you need to go on a diet or only eat foods like salads. But make sure you’re getting the nutrition you need throughout the day and that you’re not constantly skipping meals. If you’re really busy, look into meal-prepping which can save you time but also allow you to make the food that you want.
5. Sleep.
Ever wake up after a long night’s sleep and STILL feel tired? Yep, you’re not alone. Getting sleep is important for your body & brain.. Along with eating healthy, sleeping a good number of hours each night will boost your energy for the day and allow you to get more done and be productive. Balancing time to sleep and get your responsibilities done can be hard, but it’s so doable.
7. Time Spent.
Take time for yourself and also spend time with people who make you happy. It’s always good to get some alone time whether that is listening to music, watching a show, reading a book, etc. Now the balance part of this, is that it is good to spend time with people that make you happy. Toxic people need to be cut out of your life, even though it may seem so hard. By being with people who are happy and who make you happy, you’ll have more fun in life.
7. Break large tasks into smaller ones.
Sometimes a big task can be overwhelming. So find a way to break that big item into a smaller one. Take those smaller pieces and take it day by day (or hour by hour), whatever your timetable is. By doing this, it allows you to take a breath and focus on small details first and then get into the bigger picture.

8. Step back if you need to.
When it gets to be too much. You can ALWAYS take a step back. Breathe. Allow yourself to get space from whatever it is that you are doing or that is stressing you out. Go for a walk or get a snack or water. Taking a break is going to help you enormously with whatever you’re doing and can also give you more motivation and new ideas.
